What is whole body infrared therapy?

Infrared therapy sends heat into tissue, not just onto the skin. A heating pad pushes heat in from the outside. It only reaches a few millimeters deep. Infrared energy soaks in deeper.

Ours comes from a whole-body table, not a small pad on one spot. That matters when your pain is spread out, not stuck in one place. Think fibromyalgia-type pain, muscle guarding all over, and the stiffness that comes with years of chronic pain.

It is a support tool. We use it to make other treatment possible. It is not a treatment on its own.

What does infrared heat do for tight, guarded muscles?

Three effects matter. First, heat opens blood vessels (vasodilation), so more blood flows to the warm tissue. Second, it relaxes muscle. That is why tight, guarded muscle spasm often lets go during a session. Third, it helps connective tissue stretch. Warm collagen stretches further, with less force.

That last point is the one that counts. Stretching cold, guarded tissue is uncomfortable and mostly fails. Warm it first, and you change what physical therapy can do in the same session.

When is infrared therapy used?

Most often right before physical therapy or a procedure. That way the treatment is easier to take and does more. We also use it when muscle guarding all over the body keeps you from moving at all. Then the first job is just to loosen those muscles enough to start.

It pairs well with whole body vibration to build up how much load you can handle, and with photobiomodulation when inflammation is also part of the problem.

What should I expect, and who should avoid infrared therapy?

Sessions are comfortable. You just lie there. You will sweat, so drink water afterward. There is no downtime.

Take care when heat is a risk, not a help. One case is poor feeling in the skin, such as advanced diabetic neuropathy, because you may not feel when the heat is too much. Others are a fresh injury in the first 48 hours, since heat makes swelling worse, and an active infection. Serious heart and blood vessel disease is another, because heating the whole body puts strain on your circulation. Tell us your full history.

Infrared Therapy FAQs

A heating pad pushes heat in from the skin. It only reaches a few millimeters deep. Infrared energy soaks in deeper. And a whole-body table treats pain that is spread out, not just one spot.

The physics overlap. But this is a clinical table with a clear job in your treatment plan. We control the settings. And we time it on purpose with therapy or a procedure.

Yes. Drink water afterward. Tell us if you take a diuretic (a water pill) or have any problem with fluid balance.

Anyone with poor feeling in the skin who may not sense when heat is too much. That includes advanced diabetic neuropathy. Also anyone with a fresh injury in the first 48 hours, an active infection, or serious heart and blood vessel disease.

Most often twenty to thirty minutes. We usually book it right before therapy or a procedure. That way the effect gets used, not wasted.

Sessions are comfortable. You just lie there, and there is no downtime. The main thing you will notice is sweat. Drink water afterward. Tell us if you take a diuretic or have a problem with fluid balance. The real risk is the heat itself. If you have poor feeling in the skin, such as advanced diabetic neuropathy, you may not feel when it is too much.

It works by making other treatment work better. Warmth boosts blood flow and relaxes guarded muscle. It lets connective tissue stretch further with less force. Stretching cold, guarded tissue is uncomfortable and mostly fails. So we use infrared therapy right before physical therapy or a procedure. It is a support treatment, not a treatment on its own.
