A back brace is a wrap for the lower back and belly, stiffened by a firm rear panel, that supports a painful low back while it heals. At the Padda Institute in St. Louis we size it to you and adjust the fit so it is snug enough to support you and loose enough to breathe deeply.
Your physician orders this equipment as part of our physician-directed physiotherapy program. We fit it, coach you through using it, and send you home with the steps in writing.
A wrap for the lower back and belly with a stiffer back panel. We measure you for it and adjust it until the fit is right.
It supports the lower back while it heals, most of all when you sit, stand for a long time or lift.
Firm and close, yet loose enough that a full breath comes easily and two fingers slip under the edge.
Wear it over a thin, snug shirt rather than bare skin. Remove it for showers and for bed unless your physician tells you to keep it on. Check your skin every morning and night. Keep up your home exercises: a brace holds you up for now, but your own muscles are what last.
Wear it as your physician ordered.
Before you head home, you demonstrate that you can put it on, work it and remove it. Call (314) 481-5000 if it causes pain, fits wrong or stops working.
Show us you have it: Put the brace on and take it off for us. If any part is unclear, ask, and we will walk through it again at your next visit.
