A home TENS unit is a pocket-size, battery-run stimulator with sticky electrode pads, so the pain-easing tingle from the clinic goes home with you. At the Padda Institute in St. Louis your physician sets the mode, the time and how often, and we teach you pad placement and electrode care before you leave.
Your physician orders this equipment as part of our physician-directed physiotherapy program. We fit it, coach you through using it, and send you home with the steps in writing.
It is a pocket-size, battery-run stimulator with sticky electrode pads, so you can use the clinic’s pain-calming tingle between visits.
It quiets the pain signal during flares at home, on the job or overnight. That can help you keep moving and rely less on pain medicine, and it can bridge the weeks before a planned procedure.
A strong, comfortable tingle under the pads, with no pain at any point. The mode, session length and how often to use it all come from your physician’s order.
Place the electrodes on clean, dry skin around the sore area, with an inch or more between them. When you take them off, stick them back on their plastic sheet. Replace electrodes once they stop sticking well. Turn it off and call if the skin beneath a pad looks red or burned, or if you get dizzy or feel your heart racing.
Use it exactly as your physician ordered.
Before you head home, you demonstrate that you can put it on, work it and remove it. Call (314) 481-5000 if it causes pain, fits wrong or stops working.
Show us you have it: Place the electrodes, turn the unit on and choose your mode while we watch. If any part is unclear, ask, and we will walk through it again at your next visit.
