A wrist brace keeps the wrist tipped back a little, using a firm stay on the back or palm side, so a painful or strained wrist can rest and nighttime hand numbness can ease. At the Padda Institute in St. Louis we size it to your wrist and show you how to wear it.
Your physician orders this equipment as part of our physician-directed physiotherapy program. We fit it, coach you through using it, and send you home with the steps in writing.
A brace that holds the wrist tilted back slightly, with a stiff stay on the back or palm side. It comes in sizes, and we pick the one that fits.
It holds a sore wrist in a protected position and can settle the nighttime hand numbness and tingling that carpal tunnel often brings.
Firm but comfortable. Your fingers and thumb still move freely.
While it is on, keep working your fingers and thumb. Take it off once a day to wash and check your skin.
Usually overnight plus during tasks that aggravate the wrist, per your physician’s order.
Before you head home, you demonstrate that you can put it on, work it and remove it. Call (314) 481-5000 if it causes pain, fits wrong or stops working.
Show us you have it: Put the brace on and adjust the straps for us. If any part is unclear, ask, and we will walk through it again at your next visit.
